The itinerary allows you to visit the entire center of Amalfi and its main monuments.
It begins in Cathedral Square, at the foot of the majestic Cathedral dedicated to the Apostle Andrew.
From Piazza Duomo we take Via Mansone I to reach Piazza Flavio Gioia, another symbolic place in the city because it is dedicated to the Amalfi-born inventor of the compass.
We then walk along the seafront (Corso della Repubbliche Marinare) to Piazza Municipio, where one of Amalfi’s most characteristic alleys begins (so-called trap alley), which perfectly describes its defensive methods against Saracen attacks.
Said alleyway comes out under the Cathedral Bell Tower after passing through its basement.
It continues along the Vicolo dei Prefetturi and the Supportico Rua, which together make up the street that ran lengthwise across the right side of the city to the Piazza della Spirito Santo.
Having reached the said square, one descends again towards the sea by walking along the opposite side of the historic center, namely, Via Ercolano Marini, Via dei Pastai and Via Duca Mastalo II until reaching the very ancient Piazza dei Dogi, where once stood the blacksmiths’ stores serving the adjoining Arsenal of the Republic.
Da detta Piazza si risale il Rione Vaiendola per Via San Nicola dei Greci fino a raggiungere la panoramica Via Annunziatella.
From said square, one goes up Rione Vaiendola via Via San Nicola dei Greci until reaching the scenic Via Annunziatella.
Attualmente, bisogna percorrere la scalinata alle spalle dell’Albergo la Bussola a causa della temporanea chiusura per lavori di quella all’estremità di Via Longfellow.
Currently, one has to walk up the steps behind the Hotel la Bussola because of the temporary closure for construction of the one at the end of Longfellow Street.
The walk continues along the waterfront to the outer arm of the harbor, from which Amalfi can be admired frontally in all its splendor.
We then make our way back to the center and, after extending the walk to the central pier as well, return to Cathedral Square via the Porta della Marina, the old gateway to the city.
